Discover Aavasaksa – Finland’s Scenic Gem

Welcome to Aavasaksa, a breathtaking destination in Finnish Lapland where nature, history, and culture come together. Known for its stunning views, Aavasaksa is one of Finland’s most famous natural landmarks, offering visitors a chance to experience the magic of the Arctic landscape.

Standing 242 meters above sea level, Aavasaksa Hill provides panoramic views of the Tornio River Valley and the surrounding wilderness. It’s one of the best spots in Finland to witness the Midnight Sun in summer and the enchanting Northern Lights in winter.

Recognized by explorers and scientists since the 18th century, Aavasaksa was even visited by French astronomer Pierre Louis Maupertuis. The area also played a role in the Struve Geodetic Arc, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Hike through scenic trails, go skiing in winter, or enjoy fishing and canoeing in the nearby rivers. The area is perfect for nature lovers and photographers.

Experience authentic Torne Valley culture, from cosy cottages to traditional Finnish saunas. Nearby towns like Ylitornio and Övertorneå in Sweden offer local cuisine and warm hospitality.

Who I'm?

I am Kalle Jaako, a family man living in Ylitornio and the founder of EräKalle (Wilderness Kalle). I operate in the Aavasaksa region, offering wilderness and fishing experiences. Hunting, fishing, and nature have always been a part of my life, making outdoor adventures second nature to me.

In 2021, I graduated as a group guide, and the following year, I became a certified fishing guide. Finally, my lifelong passion turned into a profession. I am also a trained paddling instructor and hold a charter boat driver's qualification. I can organize activities and excursions to make your vacation unforgettable.

If you're visiting the area, you don’t need to bring all your gear—you can rent various camping equipment, such as a canoe or even a sled for ski trips.
